14 June – 10 July 10
Still Life photo exhibition. Developed in 2007, the photo exhibition aims at challenging the stereotype that once you test HIV positive, your life is a misery. People living with the virus were encouraged to take positive images of their lives. Successfully presented in the capital, in Mexico, in South Africa, in Lesotho, in Swaziland and in the UK, the exhibition is finally back to Namibia. The exhibition will be presented in Karas (14- 19 June), Hardap (21 – 26 June), Omaheke (28 June – 03 July) and Otjozondjupa (05 – 10 July) regions.

01 July 10
Launch of the new OYO magazine on ‘dating and relationships’. It was felt important to understand how young people view dating in modern Namibia to ensure we all talk the same language.

01 July 10
Launch of the new OYO photo project. In collaboration with UNESCO, OYO is launching a new photo project aiming at giving graphic expression to what different generations understand by dating and relationships. OYO staff have been trained on basic photo use and will train photographers who will take images of what they think ‘dating and relationships’ mean. OYO hopes to create intergenerational discussion using this tool.

01-18 July 10
Rehearsals and tour Uis youth group. A final rehearsal will be organised for the Otjimbingwe youth group from 01 to 08 July. The group will then be invited to tour in the Caprivi region, presenting their show to schools and communities. They are expected to reach over 6000 people.

19-23 July 10
African dance workshop in Opuwo. OYO is delighted to work once more with South African choreographer Sisi. Sisi is currently based in Oshakati, managing the famous group Omaleshe. Over the past few years, Sisi has often interacted with OYO, leading dynamic dance workshops for its groups. The Opuwo youth group will therefore rock to the sound of traditional music.

21-23 July 10
Drama workshop for Kunene support groups. In collaboration with Medicos del Mundo, OYO will organise a drama workshop for members of various regional support groups. Support groups comprise people living with HIV. They offer a platform where to deal with psychosocial issues. They often also try and create opportunities for their members, such as the famous garden in Opuwo. In order to give them additional tools to discuss issues affecting them in a fun way, a drama workshop is being organised in Opuwo.

05-22 August
Rehearsals OYO festival. The OYO festival is an annual event when members from various youth groups OYO has been working with are invited to meet, exchange, learn from one another and create a new combined show. During a 18 days trip, the production team will visit the different groups to help them prepare for the festival.

16 August-17 September
Rehearsals of the new OYO play. OYO just finished writing a new script on the issues of ‘dating and relationships’. Following the stories of seven young people, the play looks at how the choices we make influence our lives.

29 August- 04 September
OYO staff training. The last staff training of the year will be an opportunity for the staff to review progress made against targets and plan for the last school term

09-18 September
OYO festival. The OYO festival is an annual event when members from various youth groups OYO has been working with are invited to meet, exchange, learn from one another and create a new combined show. Members from Opuwo, Khorixas, Uis and Arandis youth groups will have a chance to meet and perform together.
