27 – 29 August 2009 - Twins

OYO had been privileged to receive the visit from UK acclaimed male youth dance company Fuzzylogic. Fuzzylogic, while on holidays in Namibia, took the chance to come and visit OYO’s troupe and exchanged with them on the theme teenage pregnancy.

Teenage pregnancy is a major concern not only in Namibia, but also in the UK. Both groups felt that it could be an issue to be tackled through dance, and shared ideas.

OYO’s troupe took this chance to create ‘Twins’. It is difficult enough to raise a child when you’re a teenager, but what would happen if instead of giving birth to one, you give birth to two! Twins follows the journey of a teenage couple giving birth to twins. It tries and shows how difficult it is to constantly look after babies (in the story the couple gets distracted, looses sight of the babies and ultimately… looses the babies!) and to take care of them (the sound track makes use of babies crying all the time).

‘Twins’ was presented together with ‘modern love’ and ‘memories of love’ (a piece created by the OYO troupe itself on Michael Jackson’s ‘the way you make me feel’) at the Goethe Centre/NADS on 27 August 09. It was further presented at the International School, UNAM, Greiter and Katutura, to 667 people. It will be restaged in November as part of the celebration of the World AIDS Day.
