Still life photo
In 2007 OYO undertook a project called ‘Still Life’, a photographic exhibition showcasing positive images depicting loving and happy moments in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS. The people in the photos are not necessarily HIV positive, but the person who took the photo is. The project was launched on 5 December 2007 by the Honorable Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Richard Kamwi. Having travelled to the Erongo, Kunene and Caprivi regions in Namibia, it has also been to Mexico, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland and the United Kingdom.
And now thanks to funding from the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) and Personele Samenwerking Ontwikkelingslanden (PSO) the exhibition will tour many more regions of Namibia:
February and March - Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Kavango regions
June and July - Karas, Hardap, Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regions
It is expected that many Namibians will see the exhibition and reflect on the false notion, that once you test positive, your life becomes a misery. With this project, we also aim to address the issues of stigma and discrimination. Hopefully we will reach many learners and community members, encouraging them to go for testing and face the challenges of testing positive with less fear. OYO staff, Niques Tjipurua and Ellis Amporo will tour the exhibition and conduct facilitations.
