Opuwo youth group entertaining the crowd
The talented Opuwo youth group went on tour to the Omaheke region, with a stopover in Rehoboth and Okahandja, from 20 to 27 February 2010.
The group had rehearsed with Lucie Carmen Gregoire from Canada first, then with OYO’s director Philippe Talavera and OYO’s production team. Thanks to the excellent work of the production assistant in charge of the group, Cecilia Petrus, the group was ready to go on tour as scheduled.
The group had a very strong show with a very interesting drama, four dances and seven songs. The play starts from the fact that a man wants a baby while his girlfriend doesn’t feel ready. They went to the New Start Centre to get tested and are both HIV negative. While they are still young and not married, they are serious about one another. Eventually, due to peer pressure, she falls pregnant. After giving birth, she starts spending lots of time with her baby. The boyfriend feels neglected and starts cheating on her. Eventually, he contracts HIV. Despite the fact that she has been faithful all along, she also contracts HIV. The play has a strong message and is in link with the current Take Control message, showing the chain of relations between people having more than one partner.
Presented in schools and communities, the show was extremely well received. It brought tears to many people eyes. Many people, after the performance, came to say how touched they were by the message.
Comprising 15 members, the group has proven to be extremely good and motivated. They went from school to school relentlessly, giving the message to learners and adults. This was one of the best tours OYO ever had.
