Monologues take place at the FNCC for the Arts Festival

The monologues have been a success at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC)!

As part of the Bank Windhoek Festival 2006, the four monologues, ‘the virgin pumkpin’, ‘the Lucy Bum Bum group’, ‘bread and jam’ and ‘rumour had it’ have been staged on 21 and 22 September at the FNCC. The audience really enjoyed the performances and excellent feedback was received.

Hannah Suppa, journalist for the Allgemeine Zeitung daily newspaper, reviewed the monologues at the festival, and was very impressed: ‘Mona’s interpretation of a young girl is realistic, touching and at time even frightening … Mona and Ivan are professional actors from Omaruru … Barnabas and Bianca are talented newcomers … the monologues are not only interesting for learners but also for the public at large’.

A teacher from the Namibia Project School added that ‘this was an excellent production. It was very different from what we see usually. All my students are excited. They now want to create their own monologues.’ This is great news for OYO – we work hard to inspire young people to tap into their creativity, and we look forward to hearing about the monologues the learners create.
The director of the FNCC was delighted to have staged such a production and is calling for more.

Once more, young people have demonstrated that with support, determination, hard work and commitment, they can reach professional levels and touch the public’s soul.
