Four monologues addressing the social issues young Namibians encounter in School hostels, which were adapted for film in 2006.
For most young Namibians going to school involves staying in school hostels that are far away from home. Written by young people, the Hostel Monologues documents many of the social issues that young people face in these environments – sex, masculinity, domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse, as well as HIV and AIDS.
After the first two monologues met national critical acclaim, it was decided to create another two monologues. Live performances of all four monologues have been given in Windhoek and various locations across Erongo and Kunene. In late 2006 the monologues were adapted into short films and have since been broadcast on two national television channels.
