OYO is privileged to have received a visit from Zoie Golding, founder and choreographer of the renowned Fuzzylogic Dance Company, Southampton, UK. Zoie’s style of work is called contemporary theatre contact and uses lots of body contact, lifts, and throws.
Zoie arrived in Namibia on 15 January 09 and spent five days at the Greiter Conference Centre training OYO staff and creating with them a piece titled ‘Think’. The piece follows two couples and their decision to use or ignore condoms. It uses a long piece of red material that symbolizes HIV.

Zoie enjoyed working with OYO staff and commented on their dedication and hard work throughout the training. OYO staff were committed to her vision and created a powerful 8-minutes long piece. OYO staff will now have the challenge to teach this piece in Outjo, to the youth group OYO is working with there. ‘Think’ will hopefully be taught to various youth groups and AIDS Awareness Clubs OYO is working with and will hopefully become a tool to create social awareness.
This is what some of the OYO staff had to say about the training:
“I just want to say thanks to Zoei for all the time and effort she gave us. I think the youth will love it and use the final piece to make a difference in Namibia. You were great. Keep in touch with OYO. We like your creativity.” Lesly Aibeb, Regional Head, Kunene Region
“I learnt how to lift and also how to direct a group. I learnt many new dance creating tools. This training was very exciting. I loved the hoop movements and lifts.” Josua Homateni, Rroduction Assistant, Erongo Region
