On 28 October 09, OYO was thrilled to receive the visit of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Peoples Republic of China to Namibia, Her Excellency Ren Xiapong. Her Excellency visited the offices of Ombetja Yehinga Organisation to present a cheque of N$20,000.
The Ambassador’s decision to donate the money was made “In recognition of the outstanding contribution that OYO has made in HIV & AIDS prevention and impact mitigation in Namibia” said Her Excellency. “As an expression of our support and friendship and despite the current financial constraints of the Embassy, we would like to donate this N$20,000” she continued.
Dr Philippe Talavera, OYO Director and Founder, explained that the money donated would be used in support of the next edition of the OYO magazine. “Young people aged 15 to 24 are both the most threatened and the greatest hope for turning the tide against HIV. Our magazine, OYO young latest and cool is a crucially important part of our work, giving a voice to young people and raising issues of importance to youth, from HIV/ Aids prevention, to teenage pregnancy, sexual and reproductive health, human rights and parent/ child relationships” he said. “We are very grateful for this generous gesture of support and the interest of the Ambassador in our work”
